SHORT BIOGRAPHICAL SKETCH

Dr. Sudipta Halder obtained his bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering with distinction from Visvesvaraya Technological University in 2003. He completed his master’s degree from IIEST Shibpur in 2005. He embarked on focused research to develop high strength, high performance and cost effective nano-filler adhesive to be used in the joining of metallic substrates for his Doctoral degree at IIT Roorkee. The research work carried out by him is quite relevant to the advanced research of nanoscience and technology in order to support the cutting edge technology of advanced applications. The research work was very challenging and he fulfilled all the requirements to open a new direction of technology development in the area of polymer based nanocomposite materials.

He started his carrier as a Specialist Engineer in 2008 at Process & Technology division at Tata Consulting Engineers Limited. Later in 2012, he joined the National Institute of Technology Silchar (An Institute of National Importance by MHRD, Govt. of India) as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Mechanical Engineering promoted to Associate Professor in 2022. In 2016 he was awarded Bhawan fellowship for one year to conduct his post-doctoral research program on novel encapsulation technology at the University of Alabama, USA. In 2020 he worked as Associate Research Scientist at the Department of Aerospace Engineering at The University of Alabama, USA to research vitrimer based composites and filament winded composites. Presently he is working as an Associate professor in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at NIT Silchar.

Dr. Halder’s career spanning nearly 15 years is marked by significant R&D and teaching contributions in the field of materials joining and surfacing, composites, surface functionalization, hybrid FRPs, self healing smart composites, 3R composites, encapsulation technology and energy-efficient building materials having direct applications not only in defense, aerospace and space but also in developing low cost energy efficient building materials. He is well known internationally for his contributions to developing hybrid laminated composites and self-healing smart materials having associative and dissociative bonds.

He has four Indian patents on his credit and published more than 60 research papers in referred journals and an equal number in conference proceedings. He has the distinction of guiding several students toward their master’s and doctoral degrees.
