Uncertainty Quantification Laboratory

UQ LABORATORY

The Uncertainty Quantification (UQ) laboratory was developed and established at Department of Mechanical Engineering, National Institute of Technology Silchar, India in the year 2019. It is primarily a research-centric laboratory wherein UG, PG and PhD scholars work on various research domains such as, stochastic tribology, uncertainty quantification, molecular dynamics, metamaterials, bio-inspired structures for the development of a new class of shape-changing programmable mechanical properties. Scholars are actively involved in stochastic cum multi-scale analysis and uncertainty quantification of composite, functionally graded materials, sandwich, smart, metamaterials and deployable structures considering the effect of irregularities, different forms of progressive damages and operational and environmental conditions. A new course is pioneered and introduced globally first the subject “Uncertainty Quantification” (ME 483) in the course of Undergraduate and Post-graduate level study.

Some of the key points of research work of UQ Lab, as follows:

  • Molecular Dynamics
  • Uncertainty Quantification
  • Mechanical metamaterials
  • Advanced multi-functional composites
  • Tribology
  • Digital Twin
  • Multi-scale mechanics
  • Nano-mechanics
  • Stochastic analysis
  • Design Optimization Reliability analysis
  • Surrogate Modelling
  • Machine Learning
  • Artificial Intelligence
  • Computational Additive Manufacturing
  • Micromachining Structural Mechanics
  • Homogenization

Our research group is passionate in almost each and every aspect of mechanics, design and materials at multiple length-scales. It is aimed for development of fundamental analytical and computational algorithms in relevant fields as well as application-oriented research in the interdisciplinary realm of Aerospace, Mechanical and Civil Engineering. It is projected to explore novel ideas and strengthen unique footing towards research activities.
